FINCH Brands, a premier branding and consumer insights firm, recently conducted a research study on our SiteMap® services. This research focused on identifying the pain points of today’s facility management consumers, and how our modern approach to construction successfully addresses them.
By conducting a large-scale survey, FINCH interviewed 110 qualified, well-established respondents within the construction industry. These respondents were fully screened to ensure they met the following criteria…
- Currently working as a facility manager (or similar title)
- Responsible for making decisions about capital expenditures on their campus
- Manage a campus with one or more building projects across separate sites
FINCH reports that “miscommunication and inaccurate subsurface utility data are the primary causes of accidental damages during projects.” These accidental damages can be expensive to rectify, wasting crucial time, money, and energy to rectify, jeopardizing the successful execution of any project. In addition, when asked what leads to these communication issues, “50% of facility managers say ‘It’s difficult to pre-plan for projects because of inaccurate subsurface utility information.’”
Here at SiteMap®, powered by GPRS, we go above and beyond the capabilities of standard GIS Platforms. Our technology greatly improves the level of communication, organization, and safety on any project, so you and your team can collaborate better than ever before.
With our Map Viewer feature, the process of viewing facility data is simplified, allowing users to connect locational data with specific uploaded documents, models, and specifications. With this feature, facility managers can then easily track and locationally designate documents so that they are readily available for future reference, creating a more fluid experience when sharing and updating facility utility, subsurface, and structural as-builts. In direct support of the Map Viewer tool, our Digital Plan Room provides a central repository for all necessary facility maps, models, photos, reports, and other necessary as-built documentation. Then, these files are directly linked, cross-referenced, and viewable using the Map Viewer feature by appropriately tagging each document with its corresponding location information.
As a result, SiteMap®’s digital planning tools can provide you with a fully comprehensive, accurate, 3D model of your entire site both above and below ground. With such innovative capabilities, these services help facility managers and their teams avoid the following most common pitfalls and additional costs identified by FINCH…
- Utility outage due to underground utility strike
Of the facility managers surveyed, 58% reported that they have experienced this type of damage during construction within the past 5 years. The average repair cost to rectify this issue is approximately $13K.
- Conduit or rebar damage due to core drilling or saw cutting
48% of the facility managers surveyed reported to have experienced this type of damage in the past 5 years. The average repair cost for this occurrence is approximately $12K.
- Utility Strike
33% of the surveyed facility managers reported experiencing this type of construction damage within the past 5 years. The average repair cost for this kind of damage is approximately $14K.
- Post Tension Strike
